Course Overview

During this course delegates are provided with the essential practical and theoretical information needed in order to safely use fall protection equipment to access and work safely on roofs. Delegates are also taught how to identify and deal with hazards and risks associated with this type of work. The course is fully compliant with current work at height and general health & safety legislation.

Who is the course for?

This course is aimed at field engineers, site acquisition staff, riggers and others who may need to use PFPE when accessing rooftop sites.

Contents Covered

â– General requirements for rescue
â– Health and safety legislation
â– Dangers of work at height
â– Assessment of hazards and risks commonly found on rooftops
â– Collective fall protection methods and equipment
â– Introduction to RF found on rooftops (duration 15-20 minutes)
â– Dealing with syncope (suspension trauma) – awareness only
■How to fit PFPE, it’s characteristics and limitations
â– Inspection care and disposal requirements for PFPE
â– Restraint, positioning and fall arrest techniques
■Anchor point selection and checking – eye bolts and horizontalfixed wire systems
â– Practical climbing of fixed ladders using twin lanyards
â– Practical restraint and fall arrest techniques on rooftops
â– Equipment handling of light loads to a maximum 20 kg
â– Safety with tools and equipment when working at roof edges

Requirements

Those attending training should be medically fit to carry out the practical part of the course

PPE Required

Can all delegates provide their own safety footwear (Steel toe cap boots), and comfortable working clothing. Gloves are mandatory during practical’s please ensure they are brought with you

ID & Photos

  • Please ensure you bring a form of ID to verify identity (required by some Awarding Organisations) 
  • A photograph may be required to be taken on the day for ID card issuing purposes
  • We may also take general photographs for social media purposes etc… If you do not wish to be included in any, please inform your instructor
